UNITED STEELWORKERS ENDORSE CORT VANOSTRAN FOR CONGRESS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Aug. 21, 2018

USW endorsement marks Cort VanOstran’s fourth labor union endorsement in race for MO-02

Webster Groves, MO. – Democratic candidate Cort VanOstran received the endorsement of the United Steelworkers today. The Steelworkers join the International Brotherhood of Teamsters; the United Automobile, Aerospace, and Agricultural Implement of Workers of America; and the St. Louis- Kansas City Carpenters Regional Council, in endorsing Cort for his commitment to issues that impact working families.

“We need powerful new voices in Washington to protect our right to join together and bargain for fair wages, better benefits and safer working conditions. We know that we can count on Cort VanOstran to stand with us,” said Emil Ramirez, Director of the USW District 11. “Missouri voters know that strong unions will rebuild the American middle class, soundly defeating anti-union, anti- worker Proposition A at the ballot box earlier this month. Those same voters now can choose to elect a congressman who will fight for them instead of the wealthiest individuals and most powerful corporations.”

“I am grateful to be backed by the United Steelworkers, and I am proud to stand alongside their 1.2 million members to fight for policies that will lift up our working families,” said VanOstran. “We sent a strong message in August by defeating Proposition A at the ballot box, but our work is not done yet. This November, we must vote out our Rep. Ann Wagner who consistently votes against the interests of working people. Last year she voted for tax cuts for corporations while working families worry about the future of their pensions. That is wrong.”

VanOstran is lawyer, a teacher, and Democratic candidate for Congress in Missouri’s Second Congressional District.
