Teamsters are first union to weigh in on Second District Race

Webster Groves, MO. — Democratic congressional candidate Cort VanOstran announced today that he has earned the endorsement of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. This endorsement comes just two months before the August 7 primary election where both VanOstran and Proposition A, Missouri’s so-called “Right to Work” law, will appear on the ballot. With VanOstran’s endorsement, the Teamsters are the first labor organization to support a candidate in this race.

“The constant attacks on workers from Jefferson City and Washington must end. We need labor champions who will fight back when politicians try to strip workers of their collective bargaining rights. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters are proud to endorse Cort VanOstran, a candidate who knows what is at stake for working families, because he comes from one.” said Jim Kabell, President of the Missouri-Kansas-Nebraska Conference of Teamsters. “We’re excited to work together this year to defeat Proposition A and send a labor champion to Washington.”

“I am so grateful to the Teamsters and their 1.4 million members for their support and for their unwavering advocacy on behalf of hardworking Missouri families,” said VanOstran. “Labor unions are the backbone of our district, but labor has been under constant attack in our state this year. It is time to join together to defeat Proposition A and send someone to Washington who will fight for good jobs, affordable health care, and who will protect seniors and the middle class. Our current Representative lines up with establishment Republicans to attack workers’ rights, cut taxes for big corporations, and put our Medicare and Social Security on the line, but she won’t show up for working families in this district.”

VanOstran is a lawyer, a teacher, and Democratic candidate for Congress in Missouri’s Second Congressional District.
